Artist's Statement

Thirst is about my desire for transcendence, purity, and clarity. This desire results in a love for shiny things, color, bling, the luminous, transparent and translucent that reflect light and that light penetrates or is absorbed by. Velvet and insect wings.

The dissolving of a drop of water into the ocean becomes a symbol of expansion and union with the transcendent. Reflections of light on water and the movement of the ocean hint at this process. In the technique of felting wool into silk or cotton fabric there is a transformation where two things become one.

Color and light are only reflections of the physical world. What I desire is an experience of inner light. Can a love for the physical transform into something beyond itself? Is this like wishing and hoping on a star?
